Just Plain Education

Since 2001 Dr. Phelps has been regularly updating his education website,  www.PsychEducation.org.  There are now over three hundred pages of information on specific mental health topics that are not well represented elsewhere on the internet.  Almost everything on the site is referenced information, so that you know something about the data on which a recommendation or statement is based.  The idea is to free you from dependence on any single source of information, including Dr. Phelps' point of view!

In general my treatment philosophy is to give patients as much information as they can use effectively.  In some cases patients and I have become "collaborators" in their care, because they come to know as much as I do (sometimes even more) about their particular mental health problem and the treatment options for their symptoms, through their own research.   Although Co-Psych was named for Corvallis Psych' Clinic, it was also deliberately coined to reflect this "collaborative psychiatry" process.
