Corvallis Psych' Clinic

James Phelps, M.D.

Welcome.  All of the information on this site is summarized in the table below.  You might wish first to investigate whether Dr. Phelps is really what he says he is.

Update February 2008

With regret, as I know that finding a psychiatrist in Oregon is extremely difficult, I'm sorry to say that I'm not taking consultations or new patients at this time. If you were referred by your primary care physician, please have her or him call me to discuss your circumstances. Quite often I can offer a perspective and some recommendations for your doctor to consider after reviewing your case by phone.

I do not foresee a change in these circumstances at present.  A psychiatric nurse practitioner recently completing some training with me will be working at the county Health Department -- but not with me, unfortunately. I will begin working with another psychiatric nurse practitioner in training soon. (i.e. I'm trying! to help get a new provider in our area).

Again, I'm sorry not to be able to offer more direct help. At last check, Dr. Henry Elder was taking new patients without too long a delay. His telephone is 754-0060. See  also the option in the next column to your right.

  An underutilized option:

For help getting an accurate diagnosis and for access to many of the important non-medication components of mood and anxiety disorder treatment, a psychotherapist may be a good place to start when you are looking for help.

For a list of psychotherapists with interest and experience in mood disorder management, in Corvallis/Eugene/Portland, click here. Note, other therapists in these cities may have excellent skills in this respect.  These lists reflect only those who volunteered to place their name on a list of options for services in those regions.

Most of these psychotherapists are taking new patients with little delay.
